Bulusan Volcano, Philippines - John Seach

Bulusan volcano erupted today, covering nearby villages with ash. The eruption frightened residents who ran out of their houses. The military is expected to enforce an evacuation of people from areas close to Bulusan. There is a 4 km permanent exclusion zone around the volcano.

Raung Volcano, Indonesia - John Seach

A possible eruption has occurred at Raung volcano in Indonesia. Reports from an aircraft indicated an eruption plume 5000 ft above the summit of a volcano which was assumed to be Raung. The only other active volcano in the area is Ijen, 24 km NE.

Kilauea Volcano, Hawaii - John Seach

A new fissure eruption began at Kilauea volcano after midnight on 21st July (local time). Two fissures, each about 600-800 m long, opened up between Pu`u `O`o and Kupaianaha on the east rift zone. Two lava flows up to 2 miles long began from the easternmost fissure and flowed southeast. The eruption was preceded by a drop in lava in Pu`u `O`o crater.

Rabaul Volcano, Papua New Guinea - John Seach

Rabaul volcano observatory reports an explosion occurred at Tavurvur crater, Rabaul volcano, Tuesday morning 17th July 2007. The eruption was accompanied by a loud booming noise, thick ash emission, and ejection of lava fragments onto the volcano flank. A roaring noise was heard and red glow was visible above the crater rim. Ash emissions reached 1500 m altitude and fine-to-moderate ash fall occurred at Rabaul and Malaguna.

Rift Valley Earthquakes, East Africa - John Seach

A cluster of shallow focus earthquakes has been recorded in the Rift Valley in Tanzania. From Thursday 12th July to Tuesday 17th July there have been 11 earthquakes greater than magnitude 4. The largest earthquake was magnitude 6 and was felt up to 200 km from the epicenter. The earthquakes were located close to Ol Doinyo Lengai volcano in Tanzania. Some high-rise buildings in Nairobi, about 155km away, are reported to have shaken gently for several minutes. In Arusa, Tanzania thousands of residents raced into the streets. The Rift valley is subject to both earthquakes and volcanic eruptions, although activity has been low in recent years. Volcanoes within 200 km of the earthquake epicenters include Ol Doinyo Lengai, Meru, Kilimanjaro, Chyulu Hills, Suswa, Olkaria, and Longonot. If the earthquakes indicate magma movement in the rift valley, increased volcanic activity is most likely to occur at Ol Doinyo Lengai volcano, although other nearby volcanoes may be affected.

Ol Doinyo Lengai Volcano, Tanzania - John Seach

Two moderate earthquakes have hit Ol Doinyo Lengai volcano in Tanzania. The first earthquake measured 5.4 with an epicenter 13 km east of the volcano at 11:42 pm last night (local time). The second earthquake measured 4.7 with an epicenter 20 km west of the volcano at 12:10 am today. Both earthquakes had a shallow focus at depth of 10 km.

Ashfall at Gamkonora volcano in Indonesia has covered the ground to a depth of 30 cm up to 7.5 km from the crater. There were 5 small eruptions in the past 24 hours. The volcano remains at maimum level 4 alert, and 9758 people have evacuated.
