Jebel al-Tair Volcano, Yemen - John Seach

Jebel al-Tair volcano erupted on Monday 3rd December. The eruption followed two days of seismic activity. The volcano has been active since it erupted on 30th September 2007, and there have been occasional lava flows. This eruption occurred at fissures that formed on the island after the previous eruption. The 30th September eruption led to the deaths of nine people and 47 others were injured. Jabel al-Tair (Bird Mountain) island is about 3km long, covers an area of 3.9 sq km. It lies about 100km off the nearest Yemeni coast.
