Ruapehu Volcano, New Zealand - John Seach

Melting snow at Ruapehu volcano has filled the summit crater to within 1.5 metres of the rim. A lahar is likely within weeks down the Whangaehu River. Previous lahars have caused fatalities at the volcano. In 1953, a lahar destroyed a railway bridge, killing 151 people when a train plunged into the Whangaehu River.
