Tungurahua Volcano (Ecuador)

About 19,000 people have been evacuated from around Tungurahua volcano in Ecuador after the eruption which began on 16th August. Yesterday, lava flows were confirmed on the NW flank of the volcano.

Lava has extended beyond the 6 km exclusion zone at Mayon volcano in Philippines. Danger signs have been placed 7 km from the volcano to prevent tourists and locals from venturing closer to the lava on the SE side of the volcano. Mayon volcano is capable of producing pyroclastic flows as well as the current effusive eruption of lava.

Mayon Volcano (Philippines)

The main lava flow at Mayon volcano has reached within 100 m of the 6-kilometer Permanent Danger Zone. The lava flow has reached 2 kilometers longer than the 2001 eruption. Sulphur dioxide emission remains high at 7,050 tons per day. Residents of several villages around the volcano have been advised to prepare for evacuation.
