A six-kilometer permanent danger zone (PDZ) has been placed around Mayon Volcano, following the growth of the lava dome in the summit crater. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology says that the volcano could be recharging with magma, and a new series of eruptions may not be far away. Currently the volume of lava in the crater is small. However, further emisson of lava could spill into the lower portion of the crater rim facing the southeast side of the mountain. Mayon volcano remains at level 2 alert.
