Taal volcano in the Philippines has been showing signs of unrest. The crater is hot and bubbling and people have been advised to stay away. The crater lake is a popular tourist destination close to Manila. Taal volcano last erupted in 1977.

Bulusan Volcano, Philippines - John Seach

Bulusan volcano in the Philippines erupted today sending ash 5 km high. The volcano had been quiet for three weeks and exploded without warning at 5:45 am local time. There is a 4 km permanent danger zone around the volcano.

Major Earthquake, Solomon Islands (Mag 7.9) - John Seach

A major earthquake hit the Solomon Islands this morning at 0739 hr, local time. The magnitude 7.9 earthquake had a shallow epicentre (40 km depth) and hit 42 km east of Simbo volcano. a magnitude 6.7 earthquake was felt 8 minutes later. Simbo volcano showed signs of increasing activity in September 2006 after being quiet for almost a century. A tsunami warning was issued for Solomon Islands, Papua New Guinea, Vanuatu, New Caledonia, Northeastern Australia, Tuvalu, Kiribati, Fiji. A Tsunami watch was issued for Kermadec Islands north of New Zealand. There is a possible tsunami threat to Willis and Barrier Reef islands. There could also be effects at Cairns, Gladstone and Mackay.

Rabaul Volcano, Papua New Guinea - John Seach

Semi-continuous emissions of ash have been reported at Rabaul volcano in Papua New Guinea. Today, a plume reached 10,000 ft elevation and drifted 25 nautical miles NE.

Mt Etna Volcano, Italy - John Seach

New eruptions have occurred at Mt Etna volcano in Italy. At 0724 hr on 29th March there was an increase in volcanic tremor, followed by explosive activity and lava fountains. Two lava flows were observed between southern crater and central crater of Bocca Nuova. The effusive vents are located at 3180m and 3050m elevation and the lava has flowed 1 km towards SE crater.

Reventador Volcano, Ecuador - John Seach

Reventador volcano erupted ash to a height of 20,000 ft yesterday. The volcano has been showing signs of increased activity since January.

Kilauea Volcano, Hawaii - John Seach

Eruptions continue along the east rift zone at Kilauea volcano in Hawaii. Incandescence is visible in Pu`u`O`o vent and two lava flows are entering the ocean. Lava in the PKK flow enters a tube system until the coastal plain where it continues as a surface flow. The campout lava tube provides ocean entries at Kamokuna, with an eastward branch towards the base of Royal Gardens subdivision, and westward branch to the East Lae`apuki sea cliff.
