Seismic activity increased at Nevado del Huila volcano in Colombia in October 2008. During the week of 1-7 October 2008 there were 1405 seismic events. Of these, 273 are related to fracturing of rocks, 1199 with the fluid dynamics within the volcanic conduits, 22 hybrids and 11 pulses of low-magnitude tremor. The seismic activity indicates movement of magma towards the surface. Sulphur dioxide emissions reached a rate of 10,590 tons/day on 2nd October 2008. The volcano is at alert level YELLOW.
