Tokua airport has been reopened after being closed between Wednesday and Sunday last week due to ash emissions from Rabaul Volcano in Papua New Guinea. Air Niugini warned that the unpredictable nature of the volcano and variable winds could result the closure of the airport with little warning. Since Saturday ash plumes have been blown towards the Duke of York Islands and mostly out to sea. Air Niugini resumed flights on advice from Rabaul Volcano Observatory and the Tokua Control Tower.
