Galeras Volcano, Colombia - John Seach

An explosive eruption occurred at Galeras Volcano in Colombia on Thursday 17th January at 8:06 pm, local time. Preceding the eruption, there were five tornillo earthquakes measured between 8:05 am on January 16 and 9:14 am on January 17, 2008. The earthquakes were located near the active cone, close to the surface. About 100 residents were evacuated. This is the most severe eruption at the volcano since it reactivated in 1989. Ash was reported to reach 36,000 ft altitude.
