A magnitude 6.7 earthquake hit 54 km south of Long Island Volcano in Papua New Guinea, on Thursday 22nd November at 6:48 pm local time. Minor damage was reported in the city of Lae, south of the epicentre. In 1660, Long Island volcano produced one of the largest explosive eruptions in New Guinea. The last eruption of the volcano was in 1993.
