A major earthquake (mag 7.7) and tsunami hit Java in Indonesia on Monday 17th July at 3:19 pm (local time). A three metre high tsunami hit the town of Pangandaran, and other coastal areas in south Java killing 500 people. There have been large aftershocks. Active volcanoes close to the earthquake include: Krakatau, Salak, Gede, Tangkuban Parahu, Papandayan, Guntur, Galunggung, Ciremai, Slamet, Dieng, and Merapi.
