Kilauea Volcano, Hawaii - John Seach

Incandescence is visible at night at Halema`uma`u crater at Kilauea summit. Small amounts of lava are being emitted from the vent, and ash emissions are visible during the day. On March 29 sulphur dioxide levels at the summit were 730 tonnes/day, compared to background levels of 150-200 tonnes/day. Sulphur dioxide emission rate increases from this level when ash emissions occur at the vent.

Karymsky Volcano, Kamchatka, Russia - John Seach

Eruptions have occurred at Karymsky Volcano in Kamchatka, Russia. More than 100 earthquakes were recorded in one day. Ash emissions have reached 7 km high and rockfalls were visible on the slopes. Ash emissions are creating an aviation risk.

Kilauea Volcano, Hawaii - John Seach

Eruptions continue at two locations at Kilauea volcano in Hawaii. Ash emissions are occurring from a 30 m wide vent at Halema`uma`u crater at Kilauea summit. Ashfall has deposited on Highway 11 and as far away as south point. Lava from Pu`u `O`o vent on the east rift zone is flowing through Royal Gardens subdivision and entering the sea at Waikupanaha and Ki ocean entries.

Kilauea Volcano, Hawaii - John Seach

Ash emissions are occurring from a small vent at Halema`uma`u crater, Kilauea volcano. This follows an explosion which occurred at the crater on the 19th March. The current explosive activity at the summit of Kilauea is the first in 84 years. Sulfur dioxide emissions are above background levels in the summit area. Crater Rim Drive remains closed between Kilauea Military Camp and Chain of Craters Road, due to high gas emissions and the possibility of further explosions. Lava continues to enter the sea at two locations (Waikupanaha and Ki) at Kilauea Volcano in Hawaii.

Mt Etna Volcano, Italy - John Seach

Weak explosive activity has been occurring since January at Mt Etna volcano in Italy. Ash emissions are occurring from a depression on SE Crater. Periods of activity were reported from 9-10 January, 11-17 February, 25th February-3rd March, and during the past 10 days. Significant activity at Mt Etna last occurred in April 2007 with lava fountaining, and lava flows.

Rabaul Volcano, Papua New Guinea - John Seach

Ash emissions continue from Turvurvur, Rabaul Volcano, Papua New Guinea. Moderate ashfall occurred at Matupit Island. Roaring noises were occasionally heard from the crater, and a night glow was visible.

Tibet Earthquake, 21st March 2008 - John Seach

A major earthquake, magnitude 7.2, hit Kunlun volcano region in Tibet this morning at 0633 hr local time. The epicentre was located 100 km east of Kunlun volcano, which produced China's most recent eruption in 1951. Earthquakes of this magnitude are able to disrupt nearby volcanoes. The Kunlun Fault system produced a magnitude 8.1 earthquake in November 2001.
