The Directorate of Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation in Indonesia has upgraded Krakatoa volcano (Krakatau) to level 2 alert (4 being maximum) on Tuesday 17th May after there was an increase in seismicity under the volcano. There were rumours that the volcano had erupted, spreading panic among residents, however the volcano has not erupted.
